Botox cosmetic is a popular and safe way to reduce facial wrinkles between the brows, around the eyes, and forehead. It is a non-surgical procedure wherein a small amount of drug called Botulinum Toxin Type A is injected directly into the muscles that creates wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is a by-product of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Although it is considered as toxin, it has been safely used by dermatologists for over 10 years, for wrinkle theraphy with no reported serious side effects. By using a very fine needle, Botox is injected into a specific area with a little or minor discomfort. It weakens or paralyses the muscles or it can block certain nerves. This procedure lasts only for a few minutes but will take about three to seven days to see the full results where the patient will have a more refreshed, younger looking appearance.

The effects can last for about three to four months. After which, a follow-up treatment is recommended. It has been observed, that after several Botox injections, the effect of the drug seems to last longer compared to the initial treatment. It is advisable to avoid alcohol at least one week before the treatment as well as Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks prior to the procedure to avoid bruising.
